fcAuthorization is a FirstClass RAD application that will allow you to create an unlimited number of "Authorization Submission Forms" or mini "Applets"
Authorization Submission
An Authorization Submission form is a form that when opened by the user, asks them to verify or "sign off" on something before they are granted a particular permission or access. The authorization or authentication can be immediate or it can be held for review until someone in authority authenticates and grants permission.
For example, let us assume, in an educational environment that you do not want to grant Home Page permission automatically to your teachers because you first want them to acknowledge the responsibilities and that they will agree not to publish personal information about their students. Furthermore, you want them to agree that they will NOT use your system to publish a web site for personal profit. Once your users read the guidelines you want them to provide additional information (such as school and job classification) and then submit the request.
Upon submission, you want his request acknowledged immediately with a reply that indicates that the submission has been received and is being reviewed.
The request is submitted to a conference that is monitored by other individuals in your organization who have agreed to authenticate the users. These individuals are not admins or sub-admins. They see a red flag on the receipt conference and this tells them that a new submission has arrived.
They then open the authentication application and either confirm or deny the application.
If the application is confirmed, a message is returned back to the individual who submitted the form and the original submission is archived for posterity.
Here is another example. When a user logs in to your system for the first time, they have limited permissions and no conferences except for one that has an auto-open message that asks them to open one of a number of different forms. If they want limited public access to your system, they open the Public form. If they want Teacher Access they open the Teacher form. If they open and submit the Public form, access is granted immediately and a copy of what they had agreed to is returned to them in an email. The temporary conference is immediately removed from their desktop and is replaced by all of the Public accessible conferences on your system. If the new user submits the Teacher Access form, then they are notified that this will take further authentication and as in our first example, is on hold
waiting for approval.
fcAuthorization is extremely flexible and you can configure it to do almost anything. You choose both the content of the submission form as well as up to 4 other pieces of information that you may require. You can configure up to two customizable pop-up lists, and two text fields, each with its own caption. You can use simple Batch Admin commands as well to extend the feature set and get creative.
Mini Applets
An authorization Applet is just a fcAuthorization instance that runs a batch admin script for the user. I have set up applets to assist people by automatically creating simple mail rules, setting view preferences and populating calendars. If you can use the EXPORT command you can turn it in to a self administering Batch Admin applet using fcAuthorization. Here is a screenshot of the Applet Centre on RichNet.
